Interpersonal: a. Conduct an interview with a friend (not from HCI) or family member. Find out from their point of view on prejudice and discrimination. Either record the interview or write out the interview transcript.

From my elder brother, he point out his point of view on prejudice and discrimination. From him, he said that the prejudice is the preconceived judgement towards a group of people or a specific person because of his race, ethnicity, social class, and and etc.
Also, he said that prejudice is a wrongly implemented thought to a specific group of people that led them to discriminating someone or some group of people.

Intrapersonal: [pick one]: a. Who would you want to be friends with in the novel? Explain. b. Which character would you like to play in the movie version of the novel? Explain. c. Write a diary entry for a major character of the novel. Please post your work on your blog. If it can’t be done (eg: you want to draw the poster out manually), please submit your work on Wednesday.
a)I would like to befriend Jem in the novel. Jem is a person, like his father, who is a racist and discriminates people just because of his class, status and most importantly, skin colour. Jem was a fair person and also, a person with good manners and believed in non-violence. He is also a good example to his sister.
b)I would play as Atticus Finch in the movie version of the novel. Atticus Finch is the “hero” in the movie who defended the innocent Tom Robinson accused of raping Mayella Ewell even though he did not. He protected and cited evidences to help Tom Robinson.
c)Tom Robinson.
Dear Diary,
I am in deep trouble today in court. Bob Ewell had accused me of raping his daughter, Mayella. This is totally ridiculous as I am a handicapped and I could not have possibly raped her with just one single hand. Thankfully, Atticus Finch defended me and cited these important factors to help to prove my innocence.

Multiple intelligent test

Regarding this mutiple intelligent test, I felt that it is rather accurate as I am the kind who prefers to work alone after being "discriminated" in class by some people. But never the last, I like to work with my hands and I would rather trust myself than others as I understands myself the best. I also lack EQ, the ability to interact with peers.

English holiday assignment in essay format

1a) What are the persona's feelings described in the first three stanzas of this poem? Explain how the poet described these feelings through the use of alliteration, metaphor and pun.

The persona felt frustrated and exhausted, hoping that his class would end soon. The phrase “When will the bell ring, and end this weariness?” suggests that the persona was impatient to wait any longer for he was extremely tired.

The writer used pun in some of the terms such as “quarry” to suggest that the persona is either angry with her students or is very knowldgeble. He also used “sick” to show that the persona is tried of teaching the class instead of being ill. The writer used “will” too, is not used in this case to tell us of the action of doing something but the determination to do something.

The poet described the persona’s class as “pack of unruly hounds” to show that the students are rowdy and not paying attention to her lesson. He also used “tugged the leash” to show that the persona was “pulling” and preventing her class students to escape from the classroom. The poet also used “last dear fuel of life to heap on my soul” to show that the teacher was extremely tired and anger with her students attitude and probably the ending of her teaching carrer.

For alliteration, the first word of the phrases is repeated, “Of the books…, Of several insults…, Of slovenly work.” The alliteration was stressed out to show the persona’s weariness of having to teach the class. The second alliteration, “Is the good…, What good to…” was used to show that the teacher was angry over the matter that her teaching was useless and the students are of no use.

1b. How is the tone of anger in this poem illustrated?

The tone of the poem was illustrated through “When will the bell ring, and end this weariness” shows that the teacher was angry with the students and hope for the bell of the last lesson of the day to ring so that she could stop.

The poet used another phrase “ No longer now can I endure the brunt” shows that that the teacher is pressured and complaining about her work.

Lastly, the phrase “ What on earth is the good of it all” meant that the teacher was complaining that the students failed to learn anything from her even after teaching them.

Couple likely killed by dogs

A professor and his wife were killed by a dozen of dogs on last Friday night. Their mutilated bodies were found by five passer-bys on Saturday morning. The couple was killed by a total of about 20 dogs. Living near where the couple were killed, was a man who claimed that he had been feeding the pack of dogs for quite some time and they were never aggressive towards him

My favourite food

My favorite food is fried chicken wings. The reason I like chicken wings are because of their fragrant and crunchy chicken skin and their succulent and tender meat with their chicken essence. I started felling a eye on them when I was 5 and my grandmother was frying chicken wings. Upon tasting the first one I, I started liking chicken wings.
Fried chicken wings, my favorite food, is very tasty as their are fried with olive oil most of the time and they tend to attract me to devour them whenever my mom fried them for me. However, I realised that over-eating of fried chicken wings will cause obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle.

With the realising of my possible 'future' figure, my mom seldom frying chicken wings for me. I also resisted myself from taking too much of my favorite food, which is also an unhealthy food. However, I would occationally buy some fried chicken wings from outdoor vendors whenever I felt like eating it. I would also sometimes tell 'pled' my mom to fry chicken wings for me as treat whenever I behaved

Nevertheless, fried chicken wings remained as my favorite food!

William Allingham

Lesson 2

William Allingham

William was a English man born in 19 March 1824, Balyshannon, County. He was a Irish poet and civil servant while his father was a shipping merchant. Being the eldest of all five children, William's mother passed away when he was 9 years old.

He began his career, aged fourteen, working in a bank and quit in 1846 to join the Customs Office. Visiting London in 1847, he became acquainted with the poet Leigh Hunt and with Coventry Patmore in 1849. In 1850 his first book of poems was dedicated to Leigh Hunt. From 1850-1853 he became friends with Thomas Carlyle, Alfred Tennyson, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the other members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

His chief correspondents throughout his life were Rossetti and Henry Sutton, a young poet journalist in Nottingham. In 1855 Allingham's Day and Night Songs was published with nine illustrations by Rossetti, John Everett Millais and Arthur Hughes, cut by the Dalziel brothers. His poetry, which was influenced by the tradition of Border Ballads, was close to that of Rossetti and William Morris. In 1865 his Fifty Modern Poems was published, and in 1877 an anthology of his work, Songs, Ballads and Stories.

In 1870, through Carlyle's influence, Allingham became sub-editor of Fraser's Magazine, and then in 1874 he succeeded the historian J. A. Froude as editor, holding this post for five years. As well as JW, he was the friend of such prominent artists and writers as Edward Burne-Jones, Charles Dickens and the Brownings.

William married watercolourist Helen Paterson in 1874. He died on 18 November, 1889, in Eldon House.

A Day-Dream's Reflection by William Allingham

Chequer'd with woven shadows as I lay
Among the grass, blinking the watery gleam,
I saw an Echo-Spirit in his bay
Most idly floating in the noontide beam.
Slow heaved his filmy skiff, and fell, with sway
Of ocean's giant pulsing, and the Dream,
Buoyed like the young moon on a level stream
Of greenish vapour at decline of day,
Swam airily, watching the distant flocks
Of sea-gulls, whilst a foot in careless sweep
Touched the clear-trembling cool with tiny shocks,
Faint-circling; till at last he dropt asleep,

Abbey Assaroe by William Allingham

Gray, gray is Abbey Assaroe, by Belashanny town,
It has neither door nor window, the walls are broken down;
The carven-stones lie scatter'd in briar and nettle-bed!
The only feet are those that come at burial of the dead.
A little rocky rivulet runs murmuring to the tide,
Singing a song of ancient days, in sorrow, not in pride;
The boortree and the lightsome ash across the portal grow,
And heaven itself is now the roof of Abbey Assaroe.

It looks beyond the harbour-stream to Gulban mountain blue;
It hears the voice of Erna's fall - Atlantic breakers too;
High ships go sailing past it; the sturdy clank of oars
Brings in the salmon-boat to haul a net upon the shores;
And this way to his home-creek, when the summer day is done,
Slow sculls the weary fisherman across the setting sun;
While green with corn is Sheegus Hill, his cottage white below;

At worst, no workhouse grave for him! the ruins of his race
Shall rest among the ruin'd stones of this their saintly place.
The fond old man was weeping; and tremulous and slow
Along the rough and crooked lane he crept from Assaroe.

In a Spring Grove by William Allingham

Here the white-ray'd anemone is born,
Wood-sorrel, and the varnish'd buttercup;
And primrose in its purfled green swathed up,
Pallid and sweet round every budding thorn,
Gray ash, and beech with rusty leaves outworn.
Here, too the darting linnet hath her nest
In the blue-lustred holly, never shorn,
Whose partner cheers her little brooding breast,
Piping from some near bough. O simple song!
O cistern deep of that harmonious rillet,
And these fair juicy stems that climb and throng
The vernal world, and unexhausted seas
Of flowing life, and soul that asks to fill it,
Each and all of these,--and more, and more than these!

I think that the author is a great poet as he was able lift his family's finacial problems through his talents. When he concentrates, he is always deep in thoughts and could think up and form many interesting and good poems of good vocabulary.

Metaphor poem- The forerunners

Lesson 1
The harbingers are come. See, see their mark;
White is their colour, and behold my head.
But must they have my brain? must they dispark
Those sparkling notions, which therein were bred?
Must dulnesse turn me to a clod?
Yet have they left me, Thou art still my God.

Good men ye be, to leave me my best room,
Ev'n all my heart, and what is lodged there:
I passe not, I, what of the rest become,
So Thou art still my God, be out of fear.
He will be pleased with that dittie;
And if I please him, I write fine and wittie.

Farewell sweet phrases, lovely metaphors.
But will ye leave me thus? when ye before
Of stews and brothels onely knew the doores,
Then did I wash you with my tears, and more,
Brought you to Church well drest and clad;
My God must have my best, ev'n all I had.

Louely enchanting language, sugar-cane,
Hony of roses, whither wilt thou flie?

In this metaphor poem, words and terms like "Must dulnesse turn me to a clod?", "With canvas, not with arras clothe their shame" , "Let follie speak in her own native tongue" , "True beautie dwells on high: ours is a flame" , "Farewell sweet phrases, lovely metaphors." , "Go birds of spring: let winter have his fee" , " Let a bleak palenesse chalk the doore, " .

All this terms are metaphor because they describes a subject to be alike as another subject.

The author probably chose to use Metaphor for this poem because Metaphor allows him to describe the the harbingers, the lovers, their spirits and the seasons.

I like this poem because it is logistic and rhymes. It clearly describes the harbingers of their personality, the season, the birds and the character himself. The poem also consists of many new vocabulary words and many metaphors which we can all use in our daily homework. The poem rhymes and is logistic as it describes things can might happen unlike poems with non-logistic contents. I also like the poem due to it being a cheerful poem as every phrase of the poem tells us of only positive things and not negative stuffs or description which usually some non-logistic poems contain.

Alternate ending to "Nothing but the truth"

After being changed to another school, Philip Malloy felt ashamed about his actions when he was in his old school. He thought of himself being so disobedient and showed no motive to work hard when the old school days. In the new school, the school allow students to sing the national anthem unlike the old school who totally prevent students from singing the school song.
Meanwhile, Miss Narwin resigned from the old school. On the day when she resigned, she left the school walking home, thinking. She thought to herself ,"what is happening to me, why does that boy doesn't listen and follow my orders during his school days, was it me or was it him?" Choosing the negative answer towards herself, she thought of her teaching years in the school, the attitude she showed to her students, her disability to cope with students with difficulty......
Suddenly, a screeching sound was echoed through the streets and followed by a bang. Miss Narwin led on the road, with her face as white as sheet, her head bleeding profusely from the wound.....
The commotion drew people from the school, including the principle, the students, to rush out to attend to the accident. Philip malloy ,on the other hand, was on his way home walking by his former school when he saw the commotion outside the school. Immediately, He whipped out his handphone and dialled "995". Within minutes, the ambulance arrived and brought the victim to the nearest hospital quickly.
The principle,students, all boarded a bus school compound and was about to leave for the hospital too when a single voice was heard yelling from a distant. Philip. At the hospital, emergency surgery was performed but to no avail. Doctors from the whole hospital was unable to help Miss Narwin due to her spinal cord being paralysed after the car crashed into her . Philip, along with the rest of his former classmates, crowding around the ward bed, full in grieve and anxiety. Philip unable to accept the truth burst into tears and collapsed with grieve....
Two years later, Philip Malloy graduated from the school and continued his studies in France. In France, Philip enrolled into a school in the city. When Philip entered his new class, he heard a famine voice shouted from behind him, calling his name. Philip spun around and saw a familiar face. Allison Doresett.

Blog Prompt Assignment 2- Fishy Business

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, my name is Daniel Lim and I am a member of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals. I will be delivering a speech today to raise awareness of whaling in Japan. Nowadays, fishing industries in Japan have used different fishing methods to catch marine creatures. One of the few methods is to use Whaling harpoon .

Back to the main topics, I am going to talk about the cruel acts of these fishing industries. They use weapons like the Whaling harpoon to kill marine lives by shooting out bolts at them.
After catching the creature, some fishing industries would even cut away some parts of the whale that they want and threw the half-dead whale back into the sea! This cruel act is considered illegal by most countries including Japan. From this issue, it reminds me that many restaurants in Japan serve whale delicacies in their restaurant. From the average hunting counts record per year, about 1,330 whales are killed. From what we know, whales are now considered endangered animal species, yet people are still feasting on these marine life. In fact, most of the whale species are endangered now, example : Blue Whale, Grey Whale, Fin Whale, Sei Whale etc.

Associations all over the world are consent about this and had tried many ways to stop the hunting of whales but to no avail. Finally, recently the fishing industries had result to opening fishing farms to rare whales. Hopefully through this way, the whales can increase in numbers and people can stop hunting them. Scarely one day, the whales population will increase and post no treats to the world again. Thank you for listening to my speech.
